Apparently unpublished and a highly interesting overstrike
Lot 575
KYRENAICA. Barke (?). Circa 480-435 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 2.44 g, 2 h), Asiatic standard. Silphion plant with two pairs of leaves and fruits. Rev. Head of Zeus-Ammon to right, bearded, with ram's horn over his ear; all within square dotted frame within shallow incuse. BMC -. Boston MFA -. Buttrey -. SNG Copenhagen -. Apparently unpublished. Rough and porous, and with traces of overstriking on the reverse, otherwise, about very fine.

From a Swiss collection, formed before 2005.

The unusual reverse suggests that the coin was overstruck on an unknown type: the undertype featured a beaded border within a circular incuse, part of which remains visible on the right. In contrast, the head of Zeus Ammon is framed by a linear border within a square incuse.
